Brilliant Life: How Life’s Challenges Create a Better You

by Carolyn Ellis on December 19, 2009

A lot of people have asked me how I came up with the name and meaning of my new program Brilliance Mastery.  I really love the meaning behind the word brilliance, and how beautiful and relevant it is to the goals of the program, so I thought I’d share my thoughts with you.

Brilliance - what a powerful word, right?  For me, I immediately think of the brilliance of a diamond.  We covet diamonds.  They are valuable, beautiful and strong, yet the journey to become a diamond is not an easy one.

A diamond starts off as a dark, misshapen lump of coal.  Only through a process of intense pressure over time does the structure of that ugly carbon shape transform into something beautiful.

I can’t help but think of the journey of a woman entrepreneur and the amazing and similar transformation that occurs.  It’s not always pretty, not always smooth sailing.  But it’s through that process that you learn to handle the pressure and make wise choices in the face of adversity.  It’s how you suddenly expand beyond who you’ve known yourself to be to face the toughest obstacles.

That’s why I love the word brilliance in terms of Brilliance Mastery.  For me, it describes that ability to master the journey from lump of coal to diamond – the wisdom to know that even the toughest challenges are actually helping to propel you to the next level of your highest expression of who you are and what you have to offer this world.
