I am a huge proponent of celebration! The act of celebrating our accomplishments is so important and powerful. I’m talking about doing a little victory dance, giving yourself a pat on the back or doing the fist pump or saying “Yes!” out loud.
Why is celebration so important? Without taking the time to celebrate how we are showing up in the world, we starve our hearts of love and acknowledgement. Without pausing to celebrate, we’ll pile up things on the “to do” list to find that sense of recognition outside ourselves instead. That is how a lot of us create overwhelm and have that sense of busyness, but without any deeper sense of meaning to our efforts.
Take a moment right now to tune in to what the little voice is telling you at the thought of you doing a victory dance after you work with a new client, or have a powerful conversation with your team. Perhaps it is saying, “Oh come on, I’m a grown-up and I don’t need to do that stuff!”
If your inner voice is saying anything along those lines, you’ve just learned an important lesson about how you live your life. Remember the principle of “How you do anything is how you do everything”? If that kind of resistance or internal bargaining is showing up here, it is undoubtedly showing up in other places in your life as well. Now that you see it, you can start to shift it – so celebrate that!
It’s likely obvious to celebrate your wins – but do you? Do you hold back on acknowledging your wins or even sharing your accomplishments with others because… you don’t want to brag? You don’t want to appear self-centered? Notice what gets in the way of you celebrating your wins. The thoughts and beliefs that hold you back are signs that your receiving muscle needs a workout.
Celebrating your wins – with yourself and with others – is a beautiful thing. You are owning and claiming your brilliance. It also serves as a huge inspiration for others to follow your lead and honor their accomplishments as well.
Stay tuned for the next issue of Bits of Brilliance where I’ll share Celebration, Part 2 – Celebrating Your Mistakes!.
