I know many well-intentioned entrepreneurs go flat out in offering their brilliance they unknowingly can develop tunnel vision. They aren’t crystal clear with their business or personal goals, or they fail to set up appropriate benchmarks for their progress and success along the way. Unfortunately, what starts as a joyful dream of a successful business can end up becoming an energy-draining expensive hobby. The result can be feeling you’re choking on your “to do” list, running on empty and struggling with a perpetual worry of “What’s next after this launch? Where is my cash flow going to come from?”

The first ship that landed on the moon was actually off course over 90% of the time. Yet it landed within inches of its desired destination. Necessary course corrections were made en route so it landed right on target. This is a great metaphor to hold as we captain the ship of our brilliant business forward in a quickly changing and increasingly competitive economy.

Here are 3 keys to help you make brilliant course corrections:

1. Confirm Your Destination
Do you really know where you are going? Are the goals you have for your business truly yours, or are you trying to emulate someone else or their definition of success? Whether your goal is to earn a million dollars or to break into 6-figures, you are the one who needs to set and articulate a meaningful and authentic goal and vision for your business.

2. Leave Judgment Out of the Equation
I believe it takes a courageous person to step onto the entrepreneurial path. Your business will only grow as big as you are willing to grow yourself. With this strong correlation between your business and yourself, it can be an easy mistake to judge yourself harshly when you hit the inevitable road bumps you’ll encounter in growing your business. Learn to see needed course correction as simply observations and valuable information, rather than as an excuse for negative self-talk.

3. Go for the Subtle and Powerful Shift
Course corrections are often subtle. Think of when you’re driving at a fast speed on a highway. Correcting for a strong cross-wind by jerking the steering wheel is likely to create an accident instead of a smooth ride. Establish some basic measurements of your business success, such as monthly sales, number of products sold, the average sales/client or the size of your database.

Don’t focus solely on acting just on course corrections that might means massive improvements. Perhaps it is time to tweak your sales copy, update an autoresponder series or set aside time each week to make customer appreciation calls. Don’t forget to look for the “low hanging fruit” opportunities that are likely right there in front of you that could improve your results in subtle, yet powerful, ways.

In the aftermath of the global financial meltdown, it’s clear that trying to pull a fast one on customers, investors or voters just doesn’t cut it. There is a shift going on and people are waking up. Building successful relationships with your clients will take your business to a whole new level of success. The key to business and personal success these days are qualities of integrity, honesty, transparency, and authenticity.

Integrity – Integrity boils down to whether you do what you say, and say what you do. Are your brand, business and personal presence as the leader of your business all in alignment with each other? Can your customers count on you as their trusted advisor? Do you follow through on promises you make? If not, do you admit it and address the situation?

Honesty – Customers want the truth, not a snow-job. If a prospective client wants something you can’t offer, do you refer them to a more appropriate source? If a client’s best interests aren’t served by your programs, do you tell them that? If you feel stuck for an answer or need help, are you willing to ask for it?

Transparency – People can sense smoke-and-mirrors in an instant. Tell your clients the truth, and tell them specifically how you are set up to meet their needs. Do you make your clients fish around for the return policy or are you upfront about it? Being transparent in your business not only helps clients know, like and trust you, but it empowers them as well and strengthens your long-term relationship.

Authenticity – Every day, 420 women will start a new business, the majority of which will be home-based. The lines between “home” and “business” are increasingly blurred. WHO you are being shows up in your business in a nano-second and your clients pick that up. It’s not possible to put on the mantle of gutsy, visionary businesswoman if, in your personal life, you tolerate unhealthy personal relationships, are afraid to speak your truth or your finances are in a shambles. The savvy businesswoman knows that to grow her business, she must always be willing to grow herself. That way you can bring your full, delicious authenticity to your customers, co-workers and business mission.

One of the number one reasons I choose to work with women entrepreneurs and businesswomen is because I’ve seen many women at workshops and seminars trying to find the secret to success. They are doing home study courses and spending thousands every year trying so hard to find that missing link.

The truth is the missing link isn’t in their marketing program or in the products they offer. What’s missing is internal alignment. I think the know, like and trust factor is paramount for people. People want to work with those who have integrity and authenticity. Trust me, people intuitively want to work with those who have that spark. If you are missing that internal congruence, that spark is not going to happen for you. It’s like trying to build a skyscraper on top of a foundation of quicksand. It’s just not going to hold.

I created Brilliance Mastery to help create the kind of confidence that is deeply rooted from the inside. I know this will really impact the delivery of your marketing message so that it is attractive and compelling to prospective customers.

When this new system finally clicks, you know the difference you make in the world and you don’t hesitate to share that and proclaim that. The clarity in communication is massive! It’s no wonder that it translates easily into a huge transformation for many women.

People will feel a newer sense of confidence and say, “You know what? I know, like and trust this person. I really feel that their value is integrity, and I resonate with that.”
